Connection Server step by step process

 Connection server: 

  1. Connection server is the key component acts as a broker for all client connections. 
  2. The first Horizon Connection Server must be a Standard Server. Subsequent Horizon Connection Servers are Replicas.
Capabilities of Connection Server: 
  1. Authenticating users 
  2. Entitling users to specific desktops and pools 
  3. Assigning applications packaged with VMware ThinApp to specific desktops and pools 
  4. Managing local and remote desktop sessions 
  5. Establishing secure connections between users and desktops 
  6. Enabling single sign-on 
  7. Setting and applying policies. 
POD: Group of connection servers. 

Installing Connection Server: 

Step 1: Go to myvmware.com, vmware horizon download product.


Step 2: VMware Horizon 8 2111 enterprise, click on go to downloads.

Step 3: Download connection server.


NOTE: you have install main system continue step by step (or) practice HOL-LABS notice that point
  1. We can’t have a two services running on a same operating system, that is the major problem. So uninstall the service. 
Step 4: Open Conn1 system and uninstall the vmware identity manager.


Step 5: Copy the downloaded connection server on to the conn1 system which has to be installed on it.


Step 6: Double click on it to install, click next.


Step 7: Accept the license and click next.

Step 8: Click next, next, enter recovery password, click next.


Step 9: Click next, next, next, install.


Upgrading Connection Server: 

Here upgrading 8.2 to 8.3 
Step 1: Go to myvmware.com, vmware horizon download product.

 

Step 2:
VMware Horizon 8 2111 enterprise, click on go to downloads.


 Step 3: Download connection server.


Step 4: Copy the downloaded latest version connection server to the horizon 1 server system.



Step 5: Double click on it to install, click next.



Step 6: Accept the license and click next.


Step 7: Click Next.




Step 8: Click next and install.




Step 9: Logon to horizon1, Connection server is upgraded.

 


Installing replica server: 
Step 1: Copy the downloaded latest version connection server to the conn-01server system.


NOTE: We can’t have a two services running on a same operating system, that is the major problem. So uninstall the service. 
Step 2: Open Conn1 system and uninstall the vmware identity manager.

Step 3: Double click on it to install, click next.


Step 4: Accept the license and click next.

Step 5: Click next, select replica server then click next.



Step 6: Select existing horizon server, click next.(give name or ip, ex. 192.168.120.20)




Step 7: Click Next and install. Replica server is installed. Go and check servers in horizon 1.

Horizon Connection Server Certificate: 
Step 1: In conn-01, Run certlm.msc. Or  run mmc, add the Certificates snap-in.


Step 2: Go to file, Click on add the Certificates snap-in,click on certificates.
 
 

Step 3: Click on computer account, click next.


Step 4: Click next, finish, click ok.

Step 5: Click on personal, certificates, self-certificate, go to properties.


Step 6: Change friendly name, click ok.


Step 7: Right click, all tasks, request new certificate.


Step 8: Click next, select computer, details, click on properties give friendly name.


Step 9: Click private key, key options, select make private key exportable, click ok.


Step 10: Click enroll and finish.


Step 11: Restart the service. Go to run, type Services.msc, righ click on vmware view connection server, restart.


Step 12: Observe in the horizon dashboard that there are no issues.
